Review: Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie

Everybody loves the retro cuteness of the classic Snoopy dog, but what’s this new movie revived for a modern audience of pooch fans?

We sent guest blogger Duncan Mclauchlan down to see Snoops in his new role and find out just what all the fuss was about!

Before I was invited along to see ‘The Snoopy Movie’, here’s what I knew about lovable black and white pooch: He’s a cartoon dog with an owner called Charlie Brown. That’s it. Not a lot to go on, but that clearly was enough of a pull.

We trotted on down to Vue West End and, to my delight, the main man (or should that be dog) was there himself to greet you. After exchanging pleasantries, wolfing down a few (human) dog biscuits, and watching kids cover themselves in glitter at the make-your-own Snoopy Christmas stocking stations… it was time to see what all the fuss was about.

Let’s just get this out the way first… I REALLY, REALLY WANT MY VERY OWN SNOOPY. He’s just so… cute! Aside from Snoop the hero, of course, is Charlie Brown. His kite flying mishaps make you instantly root for him, his love-story with the ‘little red-haired girl’ reminds me of every crush I’ve ever had, and his book report on ‘Leo’s Toy Store’ by Warren Peace (read ‘War and Peace’ by Leo Tolstoy) is exactly how school played out for the vast majority of us!

However it’s the nice warm fuzzy feelings at the end that really did it for me… I won’t ruin it, but it turns out Charlie Brown really is a nice guy. Now I can’t tell you if it stays true to the original characters and I can’t tell you if Schulz would have been proud to put his name to it. But what I can tell you is that I thought it was delightfully charming, and it’ll definitely tick the family festive film box this Christmas.

Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the beloved “Peanuts” gang make their big-screen debut, like they’ve never been seen before, in state of the art 3D animation.  Snoopy, the world’s most lovable beagle – and flying ace – embarks upon his greatest mission as he takes to the skies to pursue his arch-nemesis The Red Baron, while his best pal, Charlie Brown, begins his own epic quest.  From the imagination of Charles M. Schulz and the creators of the ICE AGE films, SNOOPY AND CHARLIE BROWN: THE PEANUTS MOVIE will prove that every underdog has his day.
